Beccles Kingfishers encourages the active participation of parents and guardians as well as members of the community, who wish to volunteer. It is possible to volunteer for a number of roles shown below.

At most licensed events, each competing club has an obligation to provide officials to ensure the meet runs to the required ASA standards of excellence and safety. Without enough officials, club entries can be refused; so as you can see, we really depend on everyone to help make these great opportunities possible. Training as an official is fully-funded by the club, and you will certainly find that engaging on this path will massively boost your understanding and enjoyment of the sport.

As a club volunteer you will need become a volunteer or category 3 member of the ASA (pink form) and join Beccles Town Swimming Club. The club will give you the forms and talk you through the process. Some of the roles, such as Judge and Timekeeper, require training and the club will organize this for you:

Positions available

Time Keeper:

The club needs timekeepers to enable it to meet it’s commitments at galas. To attend a gala, especially the league events, the club is expected to provide ASA trained and approved officials. The club also needs parents to volunteer as time keepers to allow the club to operate the regular time trials used to assess the swimmers progress and development.

Time keepers are used to determine the times for the swimmers in the events, backing up the automatic system if present. The Time Keeping course involves training before final approval by the ASA. Training can be booked by the club and may be paid for by the club but the club will ask for a commitment of 1 year of volunteer judging once the qualification has been gained.

Judge:

The club needs judges to enable it to meet it’s commitments at galas. To attend a gala, especially the league events, the club is expected to provide ASA trained and approved officials.

Judges are used to determine if starts, turns and stroke technique meet the standard, signaling a Disqualification or DQ for a swimmer if they are not. The judging course involves training and then attending a number of events to build experience before final approval by the ASA. Training can be booked by the club and may be paid for by the club but the club will ask for a commitment of 1 year of volunteer judging once the qualification has been gained.
